“My assignment to Abu Dhabi - Reem Island Zone E2 project was from Sept 2008 until March 2011. Working in Abu Dhabi has given me an opportunity to widen my horizon in the construction line in a totally different part of the world. The construction market over there was very competitive as most of the top tier contractors from all around the world such as Europe, U.S.A., China, Japan and Korea have their business operations there. It was an eye-opening experience.
The weather in the Middle East was definitely a challenge to the team in the beginning. During summer, the temperature could go as high as 50 Degree Celcius. In such temperature, workers are not allowed to work under such extreme weather.
Overseas exposure makes me understand that not all the construction markets in developing countries are as established and matured as the Malaysian market. We have to adapt ourselves to work around the environment to achieve business goals of the company.
My advice to others is to give yourself a chance to explore the world by working overseas when you are still young. Perseverance is a very important factor for us to succeed in the construction line, which I learned to embrace many years ago.”
Joining IJM allows you to explore your career and the world.
